El inglés del estuario (código de proyecto en_est) es una etiqueta discutida, acuñada en 1984, para un conjunto de rasgos de pronunciación del sureste de Inglaterra y posiciones en el continuo entre la Received Pronunciation contemporánea o el inglés británico meridional estándar y el habla popular londinense, incluido el cockney. Se asocia con Londres, el estuario del Támesis y los Home Counties, aunque muchos de sus rasgos se han extendido más. Entre las características citadas figuran la no roticidad, la glotalización de /t/ en ciertas posiciones, la vocalización de la /l/ oscura, la coalescencia de yod y el desplazamiento de diptongos; su frecuencia varía según hablante, estilo, edad, clase y lugar. La gramática y el uso estándares suelen distinguir la etiqueta del cockney marcado, mientras que la pérdida de h y la anteriorización de TH no son rasgos definitorios constantes. Por ello, muchos lingüistas consideran «Estuary English» no un acento coherente y sin clase, sino un nombre práctico, a veces engañoso, para pautas superpuestas de variación regional y social.
