Yorkshire English (Tyke) is the traditional dialect of historic Yorkshire, England, distinguished by the second-person singular pronouns thee/tha (a Northern English retention from Old English þū), definite-article reduction (t' for "the"), the Northern Subject Rule (verbal -s with non-pronominal subjects), and a rich vocabulary including bairn (child), nowt (nothing), summat (something), and gawp (stare). Substantial Old Norse substrate from Danelaw settlement. Three sub-dialects (West/East/North Riding); celebrated by James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small.
