Kullui (Kullavi, "language of Kullu") is a Western Pahari Indo-Aryan language of the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, India. The Kullu Valley is famous for its Dussehra festival (one of the largest in India), the Naggar palace of the Kullu Rajas, and the Manikaran hot springs sacred to Sikh and Hindu pilgrims. Kullui is part of the Western Pahari dialect chain that stretches from Kashmir to Garhwal, with mutual intelligibility decreasing with distance. Linguistically, Kullui shares Western Pahari features (vowel system, SOV order, postpositions) but has been heavily influenced by Hindi through education and media; younger speakers are increasingly Hindi-dominant. The 2011 Indian census recorded 196,295 Kullui speakers, but cultural revitalization through the Kullu Cultural Society aims to maintain literary use.
