El inglés general americano (General American, GA) es el acento más hablado del inglés estadounidense y el estándar de facto de la radiodifusión en gran parte de los Estados Unidos (~230 M de hablantes nativos). A diferencia de la RP británica reflejada en la entrada base del inglés, el GA es rótico —la r se pronuncia en todas las posiciones (water, father, heart)—, usa una [ɾ] vibrante simple para la t/d intervocálica (water, butter) y, en la mayoría de los hablantes, fusiona las vocales de cot y caught.
