Criollo de base inglesa
El criollo bahameño (dialecto bahameño, a veces «bahamianese») es la lengua vernácula criolla de base inglesa de las Bahamas, hablada por unas 400 000 personas, incluida toda la población nativa L1. Desciende del mismo criollo atlántico de base inglesa de los siglos XVII-XVIII que el patois jamaicano (jam), el kriol beliceño (bzj) y el gullah (gcl), pero con rasgos distintivos que reflejan la historia colonial bahameña: amplia influencia de los colonos ingleses lealistas/tories (posterior a la Revolución estadounidense), sustrato africano procedente de poblaciones esclavizadas de diversos orígenes de África Occidental, y un contacto marítimo español y francés más leve (menor que en otros criollos caribeños). Se distingue del inglés estándar por rasgos fonológicos (desplazamiento rótico, [θ]→[t]/[f], [ð]→[d]/[v]), rasgos gramaticales (cópula cero, aspecto habitual «does», plural no marcado) y un vocabulario propio de la vida isleña bahameña.
