Irish English (Hiberno-English) is the variety of English used in Ireland, spoken by ~5M people as the de facto majority language alongside the constitutionally first official Irish (Gaeilge). It shows substantial substrate influence from Irish in grammar (the "after-perfect": "I'm after eating" = "I have just eaten"), syntax (cleft constructions: "It's tired I am"), phonology (dental stops [t̪ d̪] for English /θ ð/), and vocabulary (craic "fun", grand "fine", boreen "narrow lane"). Major dialects include Dublin English, Ulster English, and Hiberno-English of the Western/Connacht regions.
