Le dinka (Thuɔŋjäŋ) est l'une des plus grandes langues nilo-sahariennes et la plus grande du Soudan du Sud, avec environ 4 millions de locuteurs ; c'est la langue du peuple dinka du Soudan du Sud, le plus grand groupe ethnique du pays. Il est étroitement apparenté au nuer (les deux formant ensemble le groupe dinka-nuer), mais présente d'importantes différences linguistiques. Le dinka possède un système vocalique d'une complexité inhabituelle, où des qualités de voix soufflée (breathy) et craquée (creaky) marquent des distinctions morphologiques (par exemple entre singulier et pluriel), trois contrastes de longueur vocalique (brève, longue, surlongue) et trois tons. Les principaux groupes dialectaux comprennent le padang (nord-est), le rek (centre) et l'agar (Bahr el-Ghazal). L'orthographe standard utilise l'alphabet latin avec des signes diacritiques (ä ë ï ö ɛ ɔ ɣ).
