Sikkimese (Drenjongke, "language of Drenjong/Sikkim") is a Central Tibetic language closely related to Dzongkha (dz) of Bhutan and the Bumthang languages. The Sikkimese (Bhutia) people are descendants of Tibetan migrations to Sikkim from the 13th century onward. Officially recognized as one of Sikkim's 11 state languages under the name "Bhutia". Mutually intelligible to a substantial degree with Standard Tibetan (bo) and Dzongkha.
