Pangasinan (Salitan Pangasinan) is the language of the Pangasinan province of northwestern Luzon, Philippines, with ~2M speakers. It belongs to the Northern Luzon (Northern Philippine) subgroup of Austronesian, closely related to Ilocano. One of the major regional languages of the Philippines and recognized as an auxiliary official language of the region. Verb-initial Philippine-type morphosyntax with a focus/voice system (actor focus, object focus, etc.) typical of Philippine languages. Substantial Spanish loanword stratum from 350 years of colonization. Historically also written in Baybayin.
