Aromanian (also called Macedo-Romanian or Vlach) is an Eastern Romance language of the Indo-European family, closely related to Romanian, spoken by the Aromanian (Vlach) communities of the southern Balkans. It has roughly 100,000–350,000 speakers scattered across Greece, Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia, with no single national homeland. Written mainly in the Latin alphabet using several competing orthographies, it retains many archaic Latin features and heavy Greek influence, and is classified as an endangered minority language.
