Tyrsenian (language isolate within Italy) · historical / hidden variety
Etruscan is a partly understood language of pre-Roman northern and central Italy, with ~13,000 inscriptions surviving (mostly funerary). Most basic vocabulary is unattested; what is known comes from longer texts (Liber Linteus Zagrabiensis, Tabula Cortonensis, Pyrgi Tablets). Likely a language isolate within Italy (with possible relatives Lemnian and Raetic forming the Tyrsenian family).
